Our West Houston, TX client is seeking a Technology Specialist- Database.  Energy industry experience is preferred for this position.

Role Purpose:

The successful candidate will work on a number of important projects involving, for example:

- Playing a lead role in the development of database systems to support the Gas & Power & Upstream research teams product development initiatives initially, leading to wider Energy business support. These initiatives will encompass a number of different components such as: a database repository, a content management/authoring environment, data manipulation tools, a GIS database (ESRI), data production tools including web scrapping technologies.  This project provides a lot of scope for software development and for the involvement in both database design and business analysis.  Potential scope for the progression into technology project management working in tandem with the business project manager.

- Playing a key part in the development and maintenance of web-based data tools. Technologies utilised within these tools encompass: C#, .Net, Microsoft SQL*Server, Reporting Services and Office Writer.

- Involvement from a design and development perspective in any number of additional projects utilising technologies such as ORACLE PL/SQL, Microsoft SQL*Server, Office and Reporting Services. Browser technologies including C#, .NET, Visual Studio, J2EE, Windows Enterprise Library and Integration Services.

- Development and maintenance of the corporate database, which comprises MS Access forms and Oracle database (including stored procedures and triggers).

- Play a key part in supporting continuous quality initiatives to help ensure that the Technology team continues to provide excellent standards of service delivery

- Provision of second line support for the entire product suite to both internal and external clients.

This is a demanding role requiring a capable system developer who can:

- Operate independently across the project development lifecycle; through business requirements, design, development, testing & implementation, documentation and knowledge handover.

- Demonstrate a proven track record in SQL Server software development using t-sql stored procedures. Having achieved this within an organisation such as a Financial Institution would definitely be of benefit within this role as attention to standards and code maintainability is essential

- Show an aptitude for database design and business analysis

- Demonstrate a proven track record in SQL Server software development

- Work closely with business staff to design and deliver high quality applications, enhancements and support services

- Challenge appropriately to ensure that business requirements are clear, robust and reflect commercial practicalities.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to help ensure that the Technology team continues to provide excellent standards of service delivery

- Ensure that standards are rigorously applied, and further developed where appropriate

- Support and assist colleagues by sharing knowledge and new ideas

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

A formalised and structured education in software development, design and implementation is essential for this role.

Significant knowledge and experience in the following database systems and technologies is critical to the success in the role:

- SQL*Server database management systems, using a minimum of SQL Server 2005, and t-sql stored procedures

- Microsoft Access (2003 is preferable) user interface forms and database system

- Microsoft Access VBA

Knowledge and experience in any of the following technical areas is not essential but would be beneficial:

- ORACLE databases, using a minimum of 9i, PL/SQL

- Excel VBA

- Delivering browser solutions utilising technologies such as .Net or J2EE
