Mission: Coordinate research on product, process, and business development related to business objectives. Emphasis is on the development of new processes while simultaneously supporting and improving current operations.  Provide support to the operational, sales and marketing functions as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies to protect, enhance and broaden the technological base of the company while providing real-time, applied, solutions in support of on-going operations.
  • Coordinate, direct, and manage all R&D, analytical, and technical activities.
  • Support Management in the strategic planning process, by contributing a technical management viewpoint to product, market strategy, business and resource allocation decisions.
  • Establish objectives for process development/improvement.
  • Coordinate technical activities with marketing and manufacturing functions.
  • Lead the development of new business opportunities.
  • Work with operations in the transfer of technology to the manufacturing process.
  • Propose and track annual budget.
  • Evaluate potential new feedstocks for possible assimilation in the process.
  • Promote technical meetings and forums.
  • Participate as a member of the Acquisition Assessment Team
  • Formulate mathematical or simulation models of problems, relating constants and variables, restrictions, alternatives, conflicting objectives, and their numerical parameters.
  • Integrate continuous improvement processes and concepts (LEAN and Six-Sigma) in any new procedure or process (Design For Six-Sigma) while finding opportunities to modify existing operations in order to fit the continuous improvement process.
  • Collaborate with others in the organization to ensure successful implementation of chosen problem solutions.
  • Exploit the technology and skills in the analytical laboratory to provide data which can be used for decision making and process development/control.
  • Analyze information obtained from management in order to conceptualize and define operational problems.
  • Perform validation and testing of models to ensure adequacy; reformulate models as necessary.
  • Collaborate with senior managers and decision-makers to identify and solve a variety of problems, and to clarify management objectives.
  • Define data requirements; then gather and validate information, applying judgment and statistical tests.
  • Study and analyze information about alternative courses of action in order to determine which plan will offer the best outcomes.
  • Prepare management reports defining and evaluating problems and recommending solutions.
  • Break systems into their component parts, assign numerical values to each component, and examine the mathematical relationships between them.
  • Specify manipulative or computational methods to be applied to models.
  • Develop and maintain a monthly reporting system that aligns R&D as a strategic partner.

Experience:

  • B.S. in Metallurgical, Chemical, or related Engineering field is required. A graduate degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in industrial R&D or Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in technical or operational management.
  • Some on-the-job training, but candidate should have the required skills, knowledge, work-related experience, and/or training. Lean or Six Sigma training preferred.
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
