Our Nashville, TN (Green Hills) non-profit client is looking for a Full Charge Bookkeeper to join their team on a temp to hire basis.  (30 hours a week)

Job Description:
The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records.  They are knowledgeable of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and other statutes governing non-profit financial activities.  In consultation with the VP of Finance and the Treasurer they manage the financial transactions of the company ensuring appropriate allocation to income and expense accounts and timely generation of management reports. Insures all donors receive thank you and tax letters in a timely manner.

Duties:
Issue all payments weekly for the company’s operating account.
Manage all transactions that occur via the website.
Record all deposits via Quickbook Pro.
Bill and assist the VP of Finance and Managing Director with collecting annual membership dues, sponsorships and underwriting for fundraisers, annual fund pledges, capital campaign pledges and endowment fund pledges.
Work with VP of Finance and Treasurer to enter committee budgets and overall annual budget on a timely basis.
Provide assistance to treasurers of all committees.
Verify deposits for fundraisers with respective Treasurers.
Review and process bi-weekly employee payroll to ensure accuracy.  Ensure the allocation and payment of pension funds to employee retirement accounts.
Calculate and pay Tennessee sales tax due on a quarterly basis.
Manage, initiate and post electronic payment drafts via bank system (ACH drafts for dues).
Reconcile all accounts monthly; coordinate bookkeeping activities and reconciliation of investment accounts activities with volunteer Asset Manager.
Reconcile monthly operating bank statement.
Define accounting policies for events with committee chairs
Ensure thank you letters, and tax letters are signed by necessary person (President and/or fundraising chairs and mailed).
Properly account for in-kind gifts.
Coordinate yearly transition of signature cards, corporate resolution, and bank cards for new Executive Committee members.
Prepare monthly financial statements, including balance sheet and income statements, for Board review.  Prepare comparative committee budgets.
Provide reports required during annual financial audit process. (Accountant)
Review all monthly activity to the GL (Accountant)

Requirements:
3 or more year’s experience in bookkeeping and financial management.
B.S. degree in Accounting preferred.
Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook.
Experience with QuickBooks Pro preferred.
Positive attitude.
Flexible.
Exercises judgement and initiative in interpreting policy and guidelines on financial matters.
Has in-depth understanding of institutional financial policies and procedures and makes appropriate decisions based on this knowledge.
Has regular contact with all staff, financial officers and board members.
Ability to communicate effectively, patiently and courteously.
Ability to handle multiple activities or interruptions at once and to work positively and effectively within a team or self-directed model.
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals and to handle calmly and efficiently situations ranging from routine to emergency.
Well organized with an attention to detail and accuracy.
May perform other duties, as assigned.
