The Safety and Fire Compliance Coordinator assists the Director of EHS in championing the Plant’s risk reduction, injury prevention, and regulatory compliance initiatives and helps set the strategic direction for the Plant safety program. The incumbent contributes to the success of the Plant and organization by:

  • Serving as a local subject matter expert in the regulatory compliance and people-based branches of the safety function.
  • Implementing, maintaining, and improving safety programs and processes that educate, engage, and motivate employees at all levels.
  • Assisting leadership and employees in safety continuous improvement projects and activities.
  • Conducting internal safety audits and assisting with corrective actions.
  • Analyzing injury and near-miss information/data to identify trends and establish safety/risk reduction priorities and targeted focus areas.
  • Maximizing the effectiveness of ergonomics programs and initiatives.
  • Serve as the Leader of the Emergency Response Team.  Coordinates training and drills to reduce risk of emergencies, while being prepared to initiate team.
  • Actively partnering in the Process Safety Management and HazMat Response programs.

To be successful you must have a Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety, Fire Science and/or equivalent experience.  You must be knowledgeable in adult learning concepts; behavior based safety; ergonomics; federal and state (OSHA) general industry and construction standards; OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM); Fire Fighting and Rescue, preferably in the chemical industry.

The Safety and Fire Compliance Coordinator must have the innovation/creativity to be able to develop and implement safety programs and processes that engage employees and motivates them to think and work safely.  He/She needs to possess superior facilitation and small group communication skills.  The incumbent must have the analytical ability to interpret technical safety regulations, understand ergonomics, and be able to collaboratively problem solve and assist with the implementation of corrective actions.  The ability to influence upward, laterally, and downward without direct line authority is imperative.  The incumbent’s actions need to establish him/her as resource and partner in improving and maintaining, at minimum, regulatory compliance and strive toward best practice through people-driven safety efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum BA or BS.
  • A minimum of five years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required.
  • Several years of work-related experience, on-the-job training, and/or vocational training required. Certification in professional safety is preferred. ASP, CSP, EIT, FPE qualified.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
  • Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process.
  • Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
