Our Carrollton, TX client is seeking a Senior Accountant with a public auditing background.

This position reports to the Manager of General Accounting and plays a critical role to ensure that the analysis and accounting necessary to maintain the financial statements and accounting records is completed accurately and efficiently.  The position is responsible for reporting financial activity relating to various accounting areas such as intercompany transactions, reservation/marketing activity, revenue accruals, group health, bonus accruals, debt, miscellaneous cash transactions, workers compensation and general liability insurance, lease accounting, legal accruals, guest certificate accounting, revenue allocations, franchise reporting, ad hoc reports, analysis of general ledger accounts, reconciliations and special projects.  The position requires excellent written and verbal communication with members of the accounting team and other business functions in order to understand and document the business dynamics that are reflected in the accounting results.

Responsibilities:
Prepare monthly journal entries and reconciliations including data analysis in conjunction with the month end close process on complex and technical accounting areas
Maintain general ledger accounts by posting, verifying and resolving discrepancies
Analyze monthly financial reports including actual vs. budget, actual vs. prior periods and trend variances
Convert accounting terms to understandable business explanations both written and verbally
Prepare year end journal entries including accruals for field, corporate and specific expenses
Review and post journal entries from other departments ensuring proper business purpose and documentation
Efficient use of ERP Software including the understanding of financial statement groupings, company consolidations, allocations, posting, and report creation
Develop and follow test scripts for ERP Software upgrade and implementation testing
Lead analytical projects with other departments and prepare complex accounting/financial reports and schedules including:
Analysis of historical data and loss trends and projection of future outcomes
Read and understand actuarial estimates and prepare recommendations
Understand and prepare intercompany and consolidating schedules
Provide support for the annual audit including preparation of supporting schedules, parent company reports, and documentation of variance inquiries
Prepare budget and forecast analysis for review by manager
Identify and implement process improvements and make the necessary communications

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent from an accredited university.  CPA or advanced degree preferred.
2-4 years of public accounting and/or 3-6 years of directly relevant general accounting experience
Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and application of best practices.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other productivity software including advanced skills with Microsoft Excel
Experience with the Oracle ERP system preferred
Due to financial reporting requirements and deadlines, must be available for certain holidays and weekends
Ability to interpret documents, research accounting guidance, and prepare recommendations
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to effectively share information with all levels and departments, including senior management.
Quickly adaptable to an environment that is changing and fast paced.
Ability to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time
If applicable, ability to travel for meetings with customers, vendors, other employees, and/or other business necessities
Demonstrates a high degree of personal responsibility including taking initiative and ownership of work product
Exhibits proven ability to achieve results and adhere to firm deadlines
Ability to work within the appropriate level of independence
Strong analytical and problem solving skills including the ability to complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy
