Our client in Plano, TX Is looking for a Sr. Design/Mechanical Engineer.  The selected candidate will have the following skill set:

Summary:
Provide leadership for a cross-functional team to design and develop new products for Aircraft Lighting projects.  As project mechanical lead, the Senior Design/Mechanical engineer is expected to develop mechanical component and technology strategies for new products while also identifying opportunities to improve existing products.  Successful candidate will champion collaboration with marketing, industrial design, engineering and manufacturing to inspire the team and lead the product development process.      

Duties and Responsibilities:

Quality:
Actively pursues continuous improvement and ease of doing business to meet or exceed customer needs.
Develops procedures and processes that lead to reliable designs.
Understands and uses the philosophy and tools of total quality, lean manufacturing, and design for manufacturability and serves as an engineering resource in teaching the use of these tools to others within the department.

New Product Development:
Researches and develops core technologies required to sustain or improve its competitive lead.
Designs, develops, analyzes and documents product designs which meet the functional, cost, reliability, manufacturability and safety requirements.
Acquires and applies skills necessary to design, develop and introduce new products with the greatest possible design margins and in the shortest amount of time.
Identifies, quantifies, and implements tools, methods, processes and equipment, which improve the quality, reliability and productivity of the department.

Educational / Professional Experience:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Product Design Engineering.
Advanced degree highly desirable.
Minimum 8 years of product design/engineering experience, including the use of standard mechanical engineering analysis and software (i.e. FEA, kinematics and tolerance analysis).
Ability to analyze components and assemblies for static, vibe and fatigue strength to meet design goals. Working knowledge of thermal management, basic electronics and optics is a plus.
Experience in design for manufacturability and assembly, ability to apply engineering fundamentals to solve complex design problems. Strong experience designing for the following fabrication processes: sheet metal, extrusion, injection molding, machining and casting.
Experience with Technical Proposal Support (ability to generate specification compliance documents, Conceptual Drawings, estimate project cost, and execute proposal deliverable items)
Experience with contract execution (maintain project documentation package, coordinate various multi-functional engineering tasks in a fast environment, manage design development schedule and status meetings)
Strong experience in electro-mechanical packaging. Skilled in 3D CAD (CATIA V5)
Ability to correctly use standard test and measurement equipment to quantify design margins and problems.
Ability to identify, quantify and permanently resolve problems.
Ability to sustain existing product lines.
Ability to use Windows based PC’s and standard software applications including Excel and Word.
Ability to positively communicate with customers (internal and external), to address their needs promptly and to follow through on commitments.
Project leadership experience is a plus.
Ability to establish technical standards, methods and priorities.
Ability to communicate plans, projects and capabilities to the Management.
