Our client in Fort Worth, TX is looking for a UNIX Administrator for a direct hire opportunity.  This global organization is headquartered here in Texas.  The selected candidate will have the following skill set:

Position Description:
The UNIX Administrator is accountable for installing, configuring, monitoring, troubleshooting and maintaining all servers running on an AIX Operating System to ensure optimal operation of servers and installed applications. The UNIX Administrator handles assignments of a more complex nature and provides guidance and direction to the Systems Administrator

Position Responsibilities:
Ensures optimal performance of all UNIX/AIX servers and SAN by proactively conducting ongoing performance monitoring and by tuning/adjusting as necessary
Ensure service performance meets or exceeds business expectations and is delivered in accordance with SLAs
Provides effective UNIX/AIX/SAN help desk support on a 24/7 basis by researching/analyzing issues/requests to determine server (hardware and software)/application related implications, effectively communicating with all impacted parties and by troubleshooting and resolving issues with a sense of urgency to minimize any system downtime
Create Knowledge Base articles of operational tasks to streamline support and empower first level support to resolve issues on a first call basis
Acts as a technical lead for implementation of new projects and ensures optimal server configurations. Creates optimal server infrastructure in support of new applications by researching and recommending hardware/software technologies in support of application requirements
Assists in the development of the Systems Administrator I by providing guidance and direction of UNIX/AIX/SAN Administration best practices

UNIX/AIX Responsibilities:
Effectively maintains all UNIX/AIX systems by performing maintenance patching and application upgrades (including operating system and various applications) as needed
Enhances functionality of systems by developing and modifying UNIX scripts to automate system processes
Provides support to application developers/programmers by providing technical knowledge and guidance
Ensures server security integrity by reviewing and implementing server policies within the system

SAN Responsibilities
Configure and administer Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) storage and associated components
Configure and administer Storage Area Network (SAN) and associated components; including Fiber Channel switch administration
Configure and administer data restore and disaster recovery
Configure and administer data backup clients and servers
Maintain storage aspects of new server integrations, storage allocation, and change management
Setup procedures to consolidate storage of data from different platforms (i.e. Windows, UNIX, and Linux)
Troubleshoot and fix storage issues
Perform routine equipment checks and preventative maintenance
Provide formal and informal storage administration training
Storage analysis, capacity planning, and performance planning of storage components
Document the policies and procedures to support the operational storage environment and participate in the design and ongoing refinement of procedures and policies
Prepare reports on storage administration best practices, new technologies, etc., and recommend enhancements and configuration changes to improve and optimize storage.

Education and Experience Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
Five to seven years UNIX Administrator (on AIX platform) experience required
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science preferred

Skills and Certifications Requirements:
In depth knowledge of AIX administration: LVM, UNIX Security, NFS, UNIX Networking HMC, and LPAR, KORN and PERL Scripting
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Demonstrated AIX performance tuning skills
Strong organizational skills and multitasking ability
Strong attention to detail skills
Demonstrate team working skills
Good verbal and written communications skills with the ability to effectively document procedures
Ability to work weekends and after business hours
Possess accurate keyboarding proficiency
In depth knowledge of VIO and SAN (Storage Area Networking) a plus
In depth knowledge of TSM a plus
In depth knowledge of IBM P5 and P6 series hardware a plus
