Our Scottsdale, AZ client is seeking a Valuation Actuary on a contract to possible hire basis.
Position Purpose:
Responsible for the development and direction of the valuation department of the Actuarial area of the Company.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Manages and provides technical guidance to staff responsible for conducting actuarial studies and activities
Responsible for the IFRS reserves reported to the Company’s parent
Signs statutory statement and actuarial opinion, including Cash Flow Testing memorandum
Provides guidance and advice regarding interest crediting rates and related matters
Guides staff and plays an active role in the preparation and interpretation of data and related formulae
Monitors level and trend of profit and profitability by line of business and/or product
May be assigned to company task forces or committees as needed
Tax Reserve reporting
Budgeting and modeling
Directly or indirectly supervises Actuarial Analysts and support staff.
Responsible for determining the reserving methodology of the Company (STAT, Tax and IFRS)
Educational/Experience Required:
College degree with at least a minor in mathematics, statistics, computer science or economics
Associate or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries
Extensive experience (i.e. eight or more years) in the actuarial area
Member of the American Academy of Actuaries
Knowledge of Financial Reporting and Principles (STAT and US Tax required, IFRS significant plus)
Knowledge of cash flow testing
Knowledge of annual statement preparation
Knowledge of product development, reinsurance and experience studies
Managing/Supervisory experience
Good communication and computer skills.
