Our Austin, TX client is seeking a CAD Designer/Drafter on a contract basis:

SUMMARY
Performs general drafting and design work to generate submittal, specification, fabrication, erection, standard and project drawings with distinctive design features. Completes assigned activities under general direction of the Design Group Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
1. Generating a variety of drawings and performing required calculations while effectively managing engineering hours and meeting schedules;
2. Preparing parts lists and specification sheets;
3. Assembling detail drawings from release to fabrication;
4. Responding to questions pertaining to drawings;
5. Contributing to product improvement and development;
6. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures;
7. Other duties may be assigned as required.

LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
(US) Two years from a technical school in drafting and mechanical design
At least five (5) years design experience using auto CAD with focus on structural and piping design

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret industry related documents.
Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries and complaints.
Ability to understand, read, write and converse in English.

INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT, DECISION MAKING & PROBLEM SOLVING
Ability to make decisions requiring the use of a single variable in standard situations.
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to some intellectual and practical problems.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Computer Skills: Competency in Word, Excel, and other MS Office programs; AutoCAD Inventor use.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to understand and apply basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Travel: None

Other:
Ability to read and understand specification, fabrication, erection, and standard engineering drawings;
Knowledge of applicable codes, tables and standard reference books used for design to the specific discipline;
Knowledge of drafting standard for both structural and mechanical design.
