Our Medical Center, Houston, TX client is in need of a Controller for a contract opportunity.

Job Responsibilities:
Oversees and manages accounting department activities
Prepares and monitors the annual budget
Supervises activities of assigned staff
Reviews and advises on human resources issues

Duties:
Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing financial policies and procedures
Oversees payroll, accounts receivable, prepaid expenses, General Ledger and accounts payable
Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls
Monitors and controls cash flow
Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits; providing information to external auditors
Provides data for the completion of financial surveys and audits
Manages the completion of the annual audit
Oversees the Investment Managers
Maximizes return and limits risk on investments
Complies with Investment Policy
Creates and completes financial reports (daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual)
Monitors and maintains records of all financial transactions
Prepares monthly financial reports for Finance committee, and other internal controls
Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports; and advising management on needed actions
Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential
Risk Management oversight, reviews insurance renewal proposals and new quotes
Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans
Negotiates budget allocations with department heads and reviews with Finance committee for final approval
Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions
Evaluates revenue and expenditures against budgeted figures
Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data
Manages and provides leadership to Finance and Accounting department
Meets regularly with assigned personnel to discuss progress, issues, and problem resolution
Discusses issues and problems with personnel as they arise: facilitates process of personnel arriving at appropriate solutions
Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results
Maintains financial staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results
Tracks expenses associated with grants and contracts
Represents the department by participating in the Department Head Meetings, Executive Management committee meetings, Finance committee meetings, the strategic planning process, etc.

Minimum education requirement is a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration. Favorable consideration will be given to additional qualifications including CPA certification, Master’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration; 5-7 years of experience managing an accounting department in a non-profit environment; Applied knowledge of financial and accounting principles.
