Our client in Plano, TX Is looking for a Cost Accountant:

SUMMARY
This multi-functional role has the overall responsibility for cost accounting with additional responsibilities for general ledger accounting and fixed assets.  In addition, this position performs all the France accounting duties.  The senior cost accountant has also become a mentor and leader; training new employees to become valuable team members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Management reserves the right to change these duties at any time.
Cost Accounting Duties
Analyze and establish labor and overhead rates
Close production orders and calculate WIP
Calculate quarterly inventory turns
Perform physical inventory counts and work with the manufacturing team to reconcile any adjustments
Monitor, review and report cycle counts
Continuously evaluate and improve physical inventory count procedures
Calculate and analyze the excess and obsolete inventory reserve
Act as a liaison between manufacturing and other functions of the organization at the corporate office
Prepare year end cost revaluation and analysis; work with the IT department to update standards each year
Record PPV to cost of goods sold on an annual basis and amortize the reserve
Reconcile non-inventory purchase orders and work to improve the process
Improve the inventory process by setting-up raw materials via an upload script
Calculate product margins and provide analysis to sales team and management
Compile cost information to be used in operating budget preparation
Provide management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services
General Ledger Duties
Maintain chart of accounts in the ERP system
Maintain correct accounting period
Maintain close checklist for responsibilities and completeness
Record all journal entries related to prepaid expenses, liabilities, fixed assets, and inventory
Record all investment activity and reconcile to general ledger
Reconcile bank account to general ledger for US and France
Reconcile 52 US general ledger accounts
Record activity for French subsidiary and reconcile 9 accounts to general ledger
Calculate VAT and submit monthly
Record activity and reconcile inter-company accounts
Research and provide monthly detailed support for income statement analysis
Record entries and reconcile accounts for 2 international employees; work with international agencies
Compile schedules and work with international auditors for audit of France subsidiary
Analyze IBRN reserve to validate liability
Perform year end close to roll forward accounts payable and accounts receivable sub-ledgers and balances
Year end roll-forward of all balance sheet accounts for both US and France
Year end close to roll expenses to retained earnings for US and France
Set-up and allocate overhead cost centers
Compile sales use tax returns and submissions for 4 states; research tax for new consumer product
Work with property tax consultants to document and decrease taxes
Work closely with internal audit to document SOX 404 procedures
Prepare schedules and additional support for auditors and financial reporting
Assist Controller in various projects and process improvements for accounting team
Prepare annual tax reports and supporting schedules
Fixed Asset Duties
Record monthly depreciation expense
Reconcile general ledger accounts
Record new additions
Work with all departments to ensure SOX controls are followed and proper approvals and documentation are present
Retire assets when necessary
Compile quarterly reports
Perform physical asset counts
Perform year-end procedures to close the sub-ledger
Calculate tax depreciation and provide reports to tax accountant

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with at least four years Cost Accounting experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.   Must also have at least 2 years of general ledger accounting experience.  Graduate degree optional.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Proficient in using financial applications through ERP systems (SAP desirable), and Microsoft Office applications:  Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  Has a thorough understanding of standard costing applications and general ledger.  Desires to work in a team environment.  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries from co-workers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to effectively present written and oral information to top management.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
CMA preferred; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) optional.
