Our Grand Prairie, TX client is looking for an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist on a contract to possible hire basis.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This is a multi-disciplined role with responsibilities for the environmental, health and safety programs. The primary responsibility of the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist is to maintain plant compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.  An understanding of permit requirements, the regulatory process, plant operations, and the ability to identify, define, investigate, and assess EH&S problems are crucial to the role.  Expertise in training, auditing, industrial hygiene, workers compensation, as well as hazard identification and correction is required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This individual will have accountability for identifying and ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and local applicable requirements
Administering and maintaining existing EH&S programs, policies, and procedures as well as developing specific programs as needed
Developing plant safety programs
Contractor management compliance to all company policies
OSHA compliance and reporting requirements
Providing guidelines, training presentations, and operational assistance to plant staff
Interfacing with regulatory agencies and outside vendors as necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements both verbally and in writing
Coordinating industrial hygiene related testing and programs
Preparing and submitting all safety and environmental documentation and reports to support plant compliance
Organizing EH&S related documentation
Conducting and establishing plant inspections and audits to assess compliance with regulations and expectations
Monitor regulatory process to indentify future applicable regulations and their impact on operations.
Work with corporate staff to identify and implement new initiatives to sustain compliance with current and future regulations
Providing information, guidance, and training to managers and employees
Assessing new equipment and practices to reduce the risk of injuries/illnesses, and evaluating trends and site performance on safety elements to make recommendations for improvements.
Will be involved in long term planning related to key capital areas, safety process goals, ergonomic improvements, and environmental sustainability.
Will be responsible for analyzing facilities EH&S significant aspects and impacts, and performing process risk analysis and implementing the proper control measures.
Maintains contingency plans, fire prevention, emergency preparedness, Spill Prevention Controls and Countermeasures (SPCC) Plan, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWP3), and other similar procedures and plans in accordance with regulatory agencies, insurance company requirements, and corporate requirements
Supervises maintenance of material safety data sheets so they are accessible at all times according regulatory requirements .
Maintains environmental records of waste characterization, hazardous waste management, air emission permitting, and water pollution discharge, as well as industrial health monitoring and records of employee hazard exposure according to OSHA regulations, etc.
Monitors professional literature and attends seminars to stay current with governmental compliance requirements.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
The EH&S Specialist is the plant advocate to ensure employees have a hazard-free working environment
The EH&S Specialist will continuously evaluate and identify areas where EH&S compliance activities should be focused as well as identify activities that will enable the plant to “go above and beyond” compliance yet maintain the plant’s operational and financial goals

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be technically competent in Environmental, Air permitting, RCRA, Wastewater treatment, OHSA, Ergonomics, Safety Behavioral systems, Workers Compensation
The candidate must be able to address personnel and operational issues with environmental, health, and safety concerns
Organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks
Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment
Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Understands team dynamics, can initiate and lead team activities
Strong ability to manage and motivate people
Ability to manage and prioritize multi-task responsibilities and function
Creative thinking and looking for better ways to manage EH&S risks
Ability to measure and modify systems and practices.
Experience with Lean Manufacturing methodologies a plus
Experience with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 a must
ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 auditor certified a plus

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in occupational health& safety, environmental, engineering, or similar field
OHST, CHST, ASP, CSP, CHSO a plus

EXPERIENCE:
Have a minimum of 7-10 years of practical experience as an EH&S professional
The employee in this classification will be required to occasionally lift objects of up to 20 pounds in weight.
