Our North Houston, TX client is in need of a Assistant Controller.

Job Summary:
The Assistant Controller, under the direction of the Controller, is responsible for providing the management of the Company, subsidiary company and operations with relevant financial data necessary to responsibly manage the fiscal affairs of the Corporation, its subsidiaries and affiliates.

-This position establishes and maintains internal controls to safeguard the assets of the Company; ensures and maintains the integrity of the reporting systems. An efficient and effective internal control structure which defines risk at a level deemed acceptable by the CAO and CEO is a requirement.
-This position oversees the operations of the Accounting Department activities and staff. The employee in this position is responsible for the general ledger; budget reporting; statistical accumulation; financial statement and report preparation on a regular and special request basis; assists in the company’s annual budget preparation and budget reviews; performs the monthly accounting close procedures; and performs balance sheet account reconciliations.

Essential Fuctions:
Directs and coordinates activities of the Accounting Department using generally accepted accounting principles; acts under the authority and responsibility delegated by the Controller.
Maintains fiscal objectives and policies as directed by the CAO.
Oversees the financial close, financial statement preparation and financial analysis to be completed on an accurate and timely basis within the framework of the objectives and policies established by the company.
Prepares budgets and financial forecasts/projections as required.
Responsible for accurate and timely cash flow projections.
Responsible for the accurate preparation and on-time submission to all management levels of all required financial reports.
Prepares various reports and financial analysis as directed by the Controller, CAO and CEO.
Advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to changes in current tax laws.
Responsible for the preparation and transmission of reports to all taxing authorities including all state and federal tax returns.
Maintains capital expenditure controls and fixed asset depreciation schedules.
Responsible for maintaining daily banking reporting and balance controls.
Responsible for the monthly on-time reconciliation of bank accounts.
Recommends changes in financial policies and procedures, as necessary.
Monitors established internal controls to ensure proper compliance.

Additional Responsibilites:
Responsible for the hiring of qualified and experienced Accounting Department personnel and maintenance of employee morale.
Performs other related functions or duties when requested by the Controller or CAO.
Responsible for the safety and good health of the department employees.
Assists with planning and implementing changes in the accounting system and accounting policy & procedures.

Knowledge Skills and Responsibilites:
This position requires accounting and financial knowledge attained through formal education, professional training and years of experience in:
Budgetary preparation and management.
All standard accounting operating procedures and principles.
Banking procedures as they relate to money management and money movement.
Cash management, expenditure and disbursement processes.
Federal tax guidelines and tax laws, as well as, intrastate and interstate as they relate to a sales and rental organization.
Economic trends and the current status of the economy.
Administration of the Accounting Department.
Experience in and practice of goal setting and supervisory practices.

The position also requires:
Demonstrated skills in the preparation of fiscal reports and all types of financial analysis.
Excellent organizational oral and written communication skills.
Excellent time management skills for practicing on-time reporting.
The ability to perform all accounting functions.
Demonstration of attention to details.
Ability to independently assume responsibility for the overall needs of the Accounting Department.
Ability to train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinates.
Proficient computer skills.
Knowledge of requirements set forth by governmental agencies, GAAP and other related agencies.
Knowledge of multiple entity consolidation financial reporting.

Education and Experince:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and CPA required. (Will consider candidates that have started the test taking process for the CPA)
Five (5) to Ten (10) plus years experience in accounting, preferably in the construction and/or manufacturing industry.
Excellent excel and report writer skills.
