Our Dallas, TX client is looking for a Systems Engineer.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

The Information Technology Department is responsible for supporting the Company’s computer hardware and software components for both internal and external customers.  This involves supporting and maintaining existing applications and developing new technical solutions to support business needs. The Information Technology Department partners with the management team to align IT with the strategic direction of the Company.

MISSION AND SUMMARY OF POSITION

The IT Systems Engineer’s role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in-house information systems and computer network that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links and associated operating systems. The IT Systems Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments.

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS

All responsibilities are generally performed on a daily basis, unless otherwise noted.  Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Deploy new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operating systems.
• Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
• Manage servers, including e-mail, Internet, fax, database, print, and backup servers and their associated operating systems and software.
• Manage security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection and prevention systems.
• Manage all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, and UPSs.
• Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of server and network hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
• Ensure network connectivity of all workstations.
• Administer all equipment, hardware and software upgrades.
• Design and perform server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
• Integrate servers, including database, internet, e-mail, print, and backup servers and their associated software into enterprise systems.
• Ensure system connectivity of all servers, shared software, groupware, and other applications.
• Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
• Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
• Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems.
• Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
• Perform server and security audits.
• Perform system backups and recovery.
• Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.
• Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
• Recommend, schedule, and perform network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participate in the Company’s Business Continuity Plan as needed.
• On-call availability through rotation.
• Occasional weekday after hours and weekend hours will be required
• Participate in and support established change management processes and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Four-year college diploma or university degree in computer science or software engineering and/or 6+ years equivalent work experience.
• Extensive experience building and maintaining a network infrastructure with server operating systems, including, Windows Server 2003 and 2008R2 and VMware ESX 3.5 and 4.x, EMC or similar storage platform, Firewalls including Checkpoint and or Cisco ASA, Intrusion Detection systems and Cisco Core and workgroup switches and routers.
• 2-4 years experience deployment and maintenance of MS Systems Center
• 2-4 years experience with managing and maintaining an 2008R2 Active Directory infrastructure.
• Proven experience with systems planning, security principles, and general software management best practices.
• 2-4 years experience working with software protocols and Internet standards, including IIS, Internet Explorer, DNS, Internic.
• 2-4+ experience with core software applications, including Microsoft Exchange 2007 and 2010, and Microsoft SQL 2008R2 and Microsoft IIS.
• 2-4 years working with an enterprise level backup platform such as CommVault.
• 2-4 years hands on experience in troubleshootiing problems with network, systems, server and software.
• 2+ years experience in testing, flowchart, and data mapping tools and procedures, Microsoft Visio preferred.
• Experience in building and supporting a multi-site Citrix server farm, including building and configuring Citrix servers and gateways and installing applications for use in Citrix.
• Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
• Good project management skills.
